Dr Stef Keris

Our Place in the World: Affirming Our Identity and Living the Halal Way

Dr Stef Keris is an award-winning historian, author and lecturer. His books and documentaries explore the heritage of Islam in Europe, the Ottoman Empire, the spread of Islam and Islamic culture and identity, and he presented a series on the global history of Islam for Huda TV. A qualified Muslim Chaplain, he has taught across Europe and the Middle East for over 25 years.

Sister Gemma Ali

Founder, Halal Animal Welfare Association (HAWA). PhD Candidate

Halal and Animal Welfare: Compassion and Tayyib from the Life of the Animal to the Plate

Sister Gemma Ali holds a BSc in Livestock Science and an MSc in Animal Welfare and Conservation, and is a PhD candidate researching the implementation of animal welfare standards within the Halal industry. In 2018 she founded the Halal Animal Welfare Association, a UK nonprofit bridging traditional farming, modern welfare science and Islamic principles.
